Graveyard Guidelines
St James Taxal’s churchyard is consecrated ground, providing a tranquil setting where friends and relatives can remember the deceased in a quiet prayerful environment. It is set in the wonderful countryside of the Goyt Valley. St James Church has been a place of Christian worship for nine hundred years and continues to be an active community of faith.
Both the church and its churchyard are of great heritage value. We aim to manage our churchyard sensitively to preserve and enhance this part of our Christian heritage and hand it on for future generations to enjoy. We aim to cherish this living landscape by encouraging wildlife and ecological sustainability.
We have produced guidelines which are essential reading for all who use the churchyard, and in particular those who tend graves, or those who may be considering Taxal as a final resting place.
